External wall insulation

External wall insulation (EWI) by EDL Eco Insulation is the best way to insulate your walls. External insulation involves fixing insulation materials called EPS boards to the outer surface of the wall. The insulation is then covered with a special render to provide weather resistance. A fiberglass mesh is embedded in this render to provide strength and impact resistance.

Although external insulation is an expensive insulation solution, it can also resolve other issues, such as rain penetration, poor airtightness and frost damage. Plus SEAI provides grants to homeowners and businesses to help alleviate some or all of the cost.

What is External wall Insulation?

External wall insulation (ewi) is a composite system made up of a board of insulation attached to the external wall of a building. Adding ewi will reduce you’re heating bills and carbon emissions by adding a layer of insulation around your home (Like putting on a jacket) –  this helps prevent heat escaping through your walls. EDL Eco insulation achieves this using the following steps:

Project Steps

Insulation board is added to the wall by an adhesive and mechanically fixed to the wall.

A Fast base coat and an alkali resistant Fiberglass mesh is combined to give the best impact resistance embedded into the insulation board.

A coloured primer is applied, adding a layer of water resistance and extra adhesion.

An acrylic material is added to the wall. With hundreds of colours to choose from.

Materials

The Insulation system used by EDL is called Expanded polystyrene board and comes in 100 – 160mm. Expanded Polystyrene insulation is a lightweight, rigid, closed cell insulation.

EPS is available in several compressive strengths to withstand load and back-fill forces. This closed-cell structure provides minimal water absorption and low vapor permanence.

EPS is the perfect choice for many insulation and construction applications.

EPS is known for Energy efficiency, Constant thermal resistance ,Measurable energy savings, Strength , Sustainability, bacterial resistance and low decay rate.

The Benefits

On average, a home loses 20-30% of its heat through its external walls, if they are not properly insulated. This loss of heat not only costs you money in the form of higher heating bills, but it also harms the environment by increasing greenhouse gas emissions.

Grants

SEAI grants are helping homeowners, business owners, and communities reduce their energy costs and greenhouse emissions by proving grants to applicable clients. |To find out if you qualify for a grant follow the link below.
