External insulation information

On average, a home loses 20-30% of its heat through its external walls, if they are not properly insulated. This loss of heat not only costs you money in the form of higher heating bills, but it also harms the environment by increasing greenhouse gas emissions.

External wall insulation (ewi) is a composite system made up of a board of insulation attached to the external wall of a building. Adding ewi will reduce you’re heating bills and carbon emissions by adding a layer of insulation around your home (Like putting on a jacket) –  this helps prevent heat escaping through your walls.

I am considering getting external insulation. What next?

Internal wall insualtion

Internal wall insulation also known as dry-lining insulation can improve your home’s thermal efficiency and reduce your heating bills. This involves the application of insulation to the interior face of external walls in order to improve the thermal performance of the property.

Internal wall insulation involves the application of insulation to the interior face of external walls in order to improve the thermal performance of the property.

This usually involves attaching an insulation board to the walls and covering it with a vapor barrier layer and plasterboard. This type of insulation is often a more affordable option of insulation.

You should be aware that internal insulation will take up a small amount of space in your home, usually this means taking a few millimeters of your home space.

Internal wall insulation may require movement of fixing such as kitchen cabinets, light fixtures, plugs and any other item attached to the inner surfaces of your exterior facing walls.
